Updated: Jul 20, 2022

There are many times that decoding the VIN number of your BMW comes in handy. If you are buying a car and want to know if the seller is telling the truth, or if you are at the junkyard and want to know what the factory options were, looking up the VIN number will tell you all these things. Back in the day, you had to have a friend at the dealership that could do this work for you, but now there are BMW VIN decoder websites that will tell you all this information.

The only thing you will need is the BMWs VIN number. Let's get started.

Head over to MDecoder.com and let's try it out for yourself.

At the top of screen, you will see a prompt to enter the 17 digit VIN number in. Do this and click submit. After you verify you are not a robot, the website will take you to a page that looks like this.

The first section tells you general information about the car. This is our 1997 BMW 328i convertible. You can see it had a production date of 6/4/97, it is indeed a 328i convertible, left-hand drive, m52, manual, and is Boston green over sand beige interior.

The next group of sections show you the options that the car came with.

As you can see this can be a great tool for a variety of reasons. I hope this helps, and make sure to bookmark the website or this blog to make it quick and easy next time you have to look up a BMW VIN number. Happy searching.
