Let’s face it (no pun intended), safety glasses are a hassle to wear. They get in the way, they usually aren’t comfortable, they fog up, and most of the time are just a plain burden. That being said, they do have their purpose. Your eyes are the most important part on your body. As of now there is no cure for blindness, or procedures available for transplants, so why do we neglect these simple glasses so often?
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t have the best track record of wearing safety glasses. In college I went to school for aviation maintenance and it was mandatory for us to wear them. Being on my back, in a fuselage or inside the wing fuel tanks, I found safety glasses to be
cumbersome, restrict vision, and fog up constantly. I have always used the cheap $2 wrap
around glasses you can find at just about any tool or big box store in the world. For a long time, I concluded that there wasn’t anything better, and this is something we just had to deal with.
Fast forward to ten years later, and I still have the same issue. As I get older, and as more dirt particles fall into my eyes, I wanted to find a solution. I took to the Intertek and started searching for alternatives that were light, comfortable, stylish, and would not fog up. I went through quite a bit of designs and concluded on what you see today.
To start, these safety glasses checked all my boxes. They are 99.9% UV protected to keep your eyes safe from the sun or bright sparks while grinding. They are ANSI certified and impact rated. They have an anti-scratch and anti-fog coating applied to them. Finally, they are light and comfortable, like really comfortable. I don’t mind wearing these all day in the shop. They have a nice soft grey anti slip rubber on the arms to keep them securely on your face when looking down. Most importantly, you look cool wearing them.
Obviously, I am not your mother and can’t tell you what to do, but if I can persuade even one person to be smart about their eyes and wear safety glasses, then this article was worth it. Best of yet, we made them affordable for any enthusiast. Pick up a pair today.
